Come all within… Welcome to the Claude Jones Archive web site, a collection of memories of the DC-area rock band of the late 60’s and early 70’s, dedicated with love to the extended Amoeba family and old friends.

If you have any suggestions or anything you’d like to contribute, please send an email to Mr. Mox. Thanks, and we hope you enjoy the site!

RIP Tom Guernsey

Here’s a nice article by Bruce Rosenstein about Tom’s memorial in Garrett Park on June 23.

Tom Guernsey: A Guitar Silenced

Little Gray

We drove by Little Gray recently and were amazed to see it’s still there, looking more or less the same except for a fresh coat of paint and a little white picket fence at the end of the driveway. (Presumably, a lot of work has been done inside.) The house on the left is gone, replaced by a couple of new-looking townhouses, but otherwise not that much has changed. Physically, that is. We live in different times now.

Dead Man’s Clothes

Got this from Peter a little while ago — a slightly morbid take on the old Value Village flannel shirts. Decades before anyone had heard of grunge. And you could get them for literally 10 cents, maybe 50 cents for a really good one…

Maybe it was all the talk about Woodstock, or the Emergency Reunion, or maybe we’re just getting old and sentimental — most likely some combination of the above… For whatever reason we started thinking about gathering together our Claude Jones era photos and memorabilia and putting them somewhere where they could be shared with whoever might still be interested. Thus was born claudejonesarchive.org. There’s a photo gallery of mostly Connie’s pictures, and also a few live musical selections (!), recovered from a musty box of reel-to-reel tapes recorded longer ago than most of us would like to admit.

So without further ado, here it is — maybe a little before it’s quite ready, but time is slipping away and I felt some urgency to get the stuff out there. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Just hearing some of those old recordings brought tears to my eyes. (Maybe some of you will have the same reaction but for different reasons!)

This will be an ongoing — and I hope collaborative — effort. Let me know if you want to get involved. And please, please, we need more pictures, especially of the early days, the Emergency, etc. If you have any complaints or suggestions (especially corrections), please send them to Mr. Mox, and he will deal with them appropriately. Most of all, enjoy!

Warmest regards to everyone.
